# “What if…” simulation

> The question and the setting to copy for a simulation that builds, seen from the sky, the street or in first person.

A simulation fits in two fields: the question in “Your idea”, and the place in “Setting”. No character, no dialogue: a single event, huge, that builds.

## Templates to fill in

```text Your idea (template) theme={null}
What if [a single extraordinary event] [hit / happened to] [a real place everybody knows] [at what moment, at what scale]?
```

```text Setting (template) theme={null}
[The real place] [time of day]: [three landmarks you recognize from above].
```

## Complete examples

### A natural disaster

```text Your idea theme={null}
What if a 300 ft wave hit San Francisco on a Saturday afternoon in August?
```

```text Setting theme={null}
Fisherman's Wharf in San Francisco on an August Saturday: boats packed into the harbor, Coit Tower on its hill, the crowded Embarcadero.
```

### An impossible phenomenon

```text Your idea theme={null}
What if the Moon passed 12,000 miles from Earth for a single night?
```

```text Setting theme={null}
The Santa Monica Pier at dusk: the pier and its Ferris wheel, the beach stretching out of sight, the seafront and its parking lots.
```

### A giant blackout

```text Your idea theme={null}
What if all the traffic lights in New York failed at 6 p.m. on a Friday?
```

```text Setting theme={null}
Times Square in New York at rush hour: the red staircase, the giant billboards, the crowded crossings, cars bumper to bumper.
```

> [!TIP]
>
> The better known the place, the stronger the video: the viewer recognizes the landmarks and feels the scale. One event per video: two disasters steal each other's spotlight. See [“What if…” simulation](https://docs.rewatch.studio/formats/simulation.md).
