# Story formats

> Faceless story or story with a cast, tone and style: write the prompt that goes with it.

In “Create a video”, the “Story” tool makes a video from an idea or a script. Two big families, depending on your settings:

| Family | What it is | How to get it |
| - | - | - |
| Faceless story | A voice tells, images illustrate. The cheapest. | “Media type” on “Animated images” and “Consistent characters” off |
| Story with a cast | Characters whose face stays the same from one shot to the next. | “Consistent characters” on, ideally with reference images |

* **Faceless**: the right base for a told story (mystery, anecdote, storytime).
* **With a cast**: as soon as the same character must be recognizable shot after shot (a heroine, a duo). Describe them in the [references](https://docs.rewatch.studio/video/references.md).

For a particular mood, play with the “Tone” (Storytime, Horror, Funny, Mystery, Brainrot, ASMR…) and the “Style” (for example “Living fruits” for talking fruits and vegetables). The prompt itself stays a story.

## The form that works

```text theme={null}
[Who] + [what happens to them] + [the stakes or the twist] + [the wanted tone]
```

Write a story, not a list of image words. An AI screenwriter rewrites your idea, cuts the shots and writes the images: it needs a hero, a problem and a payoff.

> [card] Faceless story
>
> A night watchman discovers that a statue in the museum moves one inch every night. He sets up a camera. In the morning, the statue is looking at the camera. Tone: mystery, calm voice.

> [card] Brainrot tone
>
> A penguin in a coffee mug storms into an open office and demands the photocopier's resignation. Fast pace, proud nonsense, absurd payoff.

> [card] ASMR tone
>
> An old fashioned soap factory, from the raw block to the wrapping. Whispered voice, slow gestures, one soothing detail per shot.

> [card] Living fruits style
>
> A tomato finds out that the cucumber voted against her at the garden council. Confrontation in three lines, one final twist.

## Your script word for word

If you want to say exactly your lines, switch to “Paste your script”. A dialogue of at least 4 lines in the `Name: line` format is performed as is, and it sets the length.

```text theme={null}
Living room, end of the day. A tomato comes home from the council and finds the cucumber on her couch.
Tomato [freezes, wide eyes]: You? Here?
Cucumber [crosses arms, smirking]: I have something to tell you.
[SILENCE The tomato drops her bag]
Tomato [looks at the camera, deadpan]: The vote was secret.
Cucumber [shrugs]: I'm very transparent.
```

* One line per line of dialogue: `Name [acting, expression]: text`.
* Start and end with a character who speaks at least twice, otherwise the first or the last line is dropped.
* A `[line in brackets]` alone makes a shot without speech.
* The text above describes the setting.

For a narration said word for word, write each sentence on its own line, preceded by `Narrator:`. Count about 3.5 words per second, plus 2.5 s per silent shot. Full details in [Paste your script](https://docs.rewatch.studio/video/script.md).

## Before / after

> [tab] Weak
>
> ```text theme={null}
> A horror story with a ghost, dark mood, 4K, cinematic.
> ```
>
> Image words, no character, no stakes.

> [tab] Improved
>
> ```text theme={null}
> Camille, attendant of an underground parking garage, sees the same car arrive every night at 3:12, with no driver. Tonight, she notes the plate: it's hers. Tone: horror, fast voice over, payoff that flips the situation.
> ```
>
> A named hero, a precise fact, a rise in tension, a payoff and a tone.

## Common mistakes

* **A style prompt instead of a story**: “cinematic, 4K, dark” goes in “Style”, not in the idea.
* **Too many characters**: in 30 to 60 seconds, each extra character has less time to exist. A duo or a trio is most often enough.
* **Text to draw**: don't ask for a date or a “comment” written in the image. On-screen text goes through [overlay markers](https://docs.rewatch.studio/video/overlays.md).
* **A dialogue that is too short**: under 4 lines, it isn't recognized as a script, the AI rewrites it.
* **Several subjects**: one video, one idea. Otherwise, split into parts.

## Settings that go with it

* **Media type**: “Animated images” (slow zoom and voice, the cheapest) or “AI video”. “Animated shots” sets the share of filmed shots: A few, Half, All.
* **Tone**: Storytime, Horror, Funny, Educational, Mystery, Motivation, Fantasy, Brainrot, ASMR.
* **Narration**: Dialogue, Voice-over + characters, Voice-over only, Continuous narration.
* **Music**: None, Auto, Described or My music. It is on by default in these formats.
* **Subtitles**: off by default; turn them on as needed.
* **Burst hook**: one second of images from the whole story as the opening.

To test without spending too much, launch a short length and a single part, then lengthen.
