# Generating music

> Describe the style, mood, instruments, tempo and energy, or ask for a song with its lyrics.

The “Music generator” tool composes a track from your request. The assistant writes the style and gives the track a short title. By default, the music is instrumental.

## The form that works

```text theme={null}
Genre: [lo-fi, cinematic, electro, folk…]
Mood: [dark, warm, tense, joyful]
Instruments: [piano, strings, synths, light drums]
Tempo and energy: [slow, 90 bpm, rising energy]
Use: [background of a horror video, intro, cooking background]
```

Never name an artist: describe the sound.

## Before / after

> [tab] Weak
>
> ```text theme={null}
> Music in the style of a famous film composer
> ```

> [tab] Improved
>
> ```text theme={null}
> Dark cinematic mood, low strings and slow pulse, tension building gradually, no vocals, slow tempo.
> ```
>
> Genre, instruments, evolution and tempo are stated. The use (tension) guides the energy.

## A song with lyrics

Say you want a song: the assistant switches to “With vocals” and writes the lyrics in the requested language, with the verses and the chorus in square brackets.

```text theme={null}
A cheerful pop song about a summer by the sea, in English, two verses and a chorus.
```

To impose your own lyrics, paste them into the request with their markers, and specify “keep these lyrics as they are”: the assistant is the one passing the lyrics to the generator, so tell it clearly not to rewrite them.

```text theme={null}
[Verse]
Warm sand under my bare feet
[Chorus]
We run to the sea, we never stop
```

## Common mistakes

* An artist or song name: describe genre, tempo, instruments.
* Asking for a song without saying so: without “song” or lyrics, the track stays instrumental.
* Lyrics without structure: mark the verses and the chorus with `[Verse]` and `[Chorus]`.
* A contradictory style (“calm and very energetic”): choose one direction.
* Wanting to change the music of an existing project here: for the editor, see [Regenerating in the editor](https://docs.rewatch.studio/tools/editing.md).

## Settings that go with it

* **Instrumental** or **With vocals**, and **Language** for the lyrics.
* The generated track is found in “My music”, which you can reuse on a project or a series at no cost: see [Voice, mascot and intros and outros](https://docs.rewatch.studio/series/voice-mascot-jingle.md).
* A cost is announced before sending: see [Spending credits wisely](https://docs.rewatch.studio/models/credits.md).

## Examples to copy

```text theme={null}
Relaxed lo-fi on piano, rain in the background, slow tempo, no vocals, for a cooking video.
```

```text theme={null}
Dark electro, deep bass, an ever faster pulse, energy building over the whole length, for a countdown.
```

```text theme={null}
Ukulele and hand claps, cheerful, fast tempo, game show opening energy.
```

Each example states the genre, one or two instruments, a tempo or an evolution, and the use. For a video without a voice over, a track heavy on melody gets in the way of reading: ask for a discreet base.
