# Generating video clips

> Animate an image: describe what moves, how, the camera and the rhythm, or stitch your clips together.

The “Video generator” tool starts from a start image. You describe the movement, the assistant writes the prompt and launches the clip. It doesn't generate an image here.

> [!WARNING]
>
> Without a start image or a mentioned character, nothing launches: attach an image, or create it first in [Images](https://docs.rewatch.studio/tools/images.md). The app says so: “Attach an image or a clip, or mention a character with @Name.”

## The form that works

An image describes a moment, a clip describes a change. Write what moves, how, the camera and the rhythm.

```text theme={null}
Moving subject: [who or what] [action], [speed: slow, jittery, all at once].
Secondary elements: [wind, rain, flickering light, crowd].
Camera: [locked shot, slow push in, orbit around the subject, handheld].
Rhythm: [calm, rising tension, burst].
```

## Before / after

> [tab] Weak
>
> ```text theme={null}
> Make the image move
> ```

> [tab] Improved
>
> ```text theme={null}
> Slow push in toward the face, the hair moves in the wind, she turns her head toward us at the end, fine rain in the background, calm rhythm.
> ```
>
> The subject's movement, the camera's movement and the rhythm are stated. The image already carries the setting: don't redescribe it.

With a mentioned character (`@Name`), their portrait serves as the start image if you don't attach one. Describe their action, never their appearance.

## Stitching clips together

Ask the assistant to edit the session's clips: “stitch the clips together”, “edit them with the music”. It chains them in the session's order (or the one you give) with a hard cut, or a crossfade if you mention a fade or a soft transition. A music track or a voice from the session can go underneath: either alone, or mixed with the clips' sound. This editing is free.

```text theme={null}
Stitch clips 1, 3 and 2 with a crossfade, and put the session's music underneath while keeping the clips' sound.
```

## Common mistakes

* Redescribing the image instead of the movement: say what changes.
* Too many actions in a single clip: a short clip holds one gesture or one camera move, not a whole scene.
* Forgetting the camera: without an instruction, it often stays frozen.
* Asking for a length beyond what the engine allows: the maximum length varies by engine, look at the range shown.
* An end image requested from an engine that doesn't handle it: choose an engine that accepts it.

## Settings that go with it

* **Engine**: maximum length, end image, native sound, number of references vary. See [Choosing an engine](https://docs.rewatch.studio/models/choose.md).
* **Duration**, **Format**, **Resolution**: the price is counted per second, so use a short length to test.
* **Sound**: on or off when the engine offers it.
* On an image from the session, “Use as start image” places it in the request.
* Test short before launching long: see [Spending credits wisely](https://docs.rewatch.studio/models/credits.md).

## Examples to copy

```text theme={null}
Locked shot, the rain falls and the neon lights flicker softly, smoke rises from the gutter, slow rhythm.
```

```text theme={null}
The camera circles the character as he turns back toward us, fluid movement, light that changes as it passes behind him.
```

```text theme={null}
Fast zoom on the product, droplets burst out around it, the camera pulls back suddenly at the end, jittery rhythm.
```

Each example follows the same logic: a subject that moves, an element of the setting that lives, a camera movement, a rhythm. Keep a single camera movement per clip.
