# From a video

> Remake a video that worked, your way: what to keep, what to replace, and how to say it.

The “From a video” tool starts from a TikTok, YouTube or Instagram link. The app analyzes the video (scenes, lines, pacing, tone, characters, burned in text), then writes your version of it. Here you don't write an idea: you **choose what you keep** and you **provide what you replace**.

## The link

Paste the link in “Video link (TikTok, YouTube, Instagram)”.

If the video was posted in several parts, click “+ Add the next part (video posted in several parts)” and paste the links in order, up to five. Your video will have one part per link, in the same order.

> [!TIP]
>
> Choose a source whose appeal comes from the story or the structure (a hook, a twist, a rhythm), not from the person on camera. That is what carries over best.

## “What to keep from the story?”

Three levels, from the most faithful to the freest:

| Choice | What you get | When to pick it |
| - | - | - |
| “Same story” | Same scenes in the same order, same payoff. The lines are reworded. The length follows the source. | Adapting a specific story with your characters or in your style |
| “Same recipe” | Same kind of hook and pacing, with a different story. | Reusing a format that works without copying the content |
| “Free story” | Same theme and same tone, the story goes wherever it wants. | Looking for inspiration from a video |

## What you replace

By default, characters, settings and voices are taken from the original video. Everything you provide takes priority:

* **Characters**: describe them in “Characters” or add their images. They take the place of the source's characters. See [References and style](https://docs.rewatch.studio/video/references.md).
* **Setting**: the “Setting” field takes priority over the settings of the source video.
* **Style**: “Keep the visual style of the video” is on by default. Turn it off to choose your own style in “Customize”.
* **Series**: attach the video to a series and its characters and style play the parts.

## Example

A source: a sketch where a customer tries to get a refund for an absurd item, in three increasingly wild follow ups.

> [tab] Same story
>
> Keep the three follow ups and the payoff. In “Characters”:
>
> ```text theme={null}
> The customer: a penguin in a three piece suit that is too big, very polite, high voice.
> The clerk: an old turtle with glasses, unflappable, slow voice.
> ```
>
> In “Setting”:
>
> ```text theme={null}
> The counter of an ice floe hardware store, shelves made of ice, blue neon.
> ```

> [tab] Same recipe
>
> Keep the mechanism (an absurd request, three follow ups, a payoff) with a different story. Leave the fields empty if you want the AI to invent, or describe your characters to give it a direction.

## Common mistakes

* **Expecting an exact copy.** Even with “Same story”, the lines are reworded. For an exact text, use [Paste your script](https://docs.rewatch.studio/video/script.md) instead.
* **Pasting the parts in the wrong order.** The order of the links is the order of the parts.
* **Choosing a length with “Same story”.** It follows the source; it is normal that the setting is locked.
